When photographing interiors, I always take the time to learn about the backstage of each project. Very often it turns out that the story behind the place is reflected in various elements of its interior design. It was no different in the case of this Warsaw apartment, which the architect from Studio KONTENT designed for an extremely interesting couple: Polish and Greek, after years spent in Denmark, where they both found happiness and each other, decided to settle in Mokotów. They both appreciate Danish design and wanted their apartment to be kept in this style.
Seemingly, it may look like a very minimalist space, lacking in decorative accents, but looking more closely, you can see a lot of personal and very interesting details. I was particularly delighted with the balsa lamp by Tom Rossau – the architect from Studio KONTENT explained to me that during a stay in Copenhagen, the owners lived next to the artist’s studio and wanted to refer to this stage of their life by placing his work in their Warsaw apartment. But there are more tidbits inside: the wall behind the dining table is decorated with metal boats purchased in a craft workshop in Crete, during one of the owners’ holidays; there are also paintings from Greek artists and furniture designs of young Polish brands, including bedside tables from TAMO. The icing on the cake is the olive tree which is another reference to the Mediterranean roots of the master of the house. Getting to know each corner of this apartment, I felt like I was flicking through a family album, full of anecdotes and curiosities from the past.
